Grade 8 students Visit Dar-UL-SHAFAQAT Orphanage

We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.

 Mother Teresa

Often we hear stories about orphans, but how many of us make the effort to go visit one? ISC–Lahore has always encouraged children to support the less privileged. In this spirit, to talk to the little ones who have lost their parents, Gr. 8 prefects of the SABIS Student Life Organization® at ISC–Lahore embarked on their spiritual trip to DAR–UL –SHAFAQAT, an orphanage run by NGO on Multan Road in Lahore.

On June 2nd, 2012, a group of grade 8 students which includes Syeda Iqraa Bukhari, Jasleen Kaur, Inbsaat Rafi, Hira Shahid, Aysha Ashraf and Muhammad Hashim Chattha, and accompanied by Mrs. Sharmeen Zaidi -English teacher, Mr. Adham Fayyad –SLC, and Mr. Nasir Mahmood – Middle School AQC set out on their trip to DAR–UL –SHAFAQAT. In preparation for the trip, these students collected donations through a Charity Drive in the school for one week, going around the school campus, carrying their yellow cardboard boxes, collecting donations from students, parents, and teachers.  Their enthusiasm touched others and they managed to collect an impressive Rs. 97,000 (Pakistan Rupees ninety thousand).  The officials of the orphanage had informed that all children are school going and they need stationary, school bags, calculators, textbooks, and notebooks. All items were bought with this money. Then with the help of these students, all the material was packed and hauled by the school van to the orphanage.

It was a hot day and there was no electricity at the orphanage, yet it did not dampen the spirits of our young ones. It was a proud moment for everyone when the little kids joined the students of ISC-Lahore to sing the National Anthem. Moreover, they sang nursery rhymes and shared jokes.  It all made the children realize how much they have in common with the orphans. They share the same hopes and dreams. The only difference is their circumstance, the hand that fate has dealt them. Our students also realized how fortunate they were to have the blessing of loving parents!

This will not be a onetime visit and help. The ISC Lahore students, and the community, will continue the visits and offer help needed by the children of DAR–UL –SHAFAQAT.
