Together We Can Weather Any Storm

A million homes destroyed! An estimated death toll of 1600! One-fifth of the country inundating! A devastation that has surpassed the destruction caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 northern Pakistan earthquake, and 2010 Haiti earthquake combined! Over 400,000 people have been affected. In the midst of such turmoil, ISC-Lahore could not possibly remain unmoved or inactive. In a series of on-going efforts, various people from Choueifat-Lahore have taken proactive initiatives to provide some sort of relief to our fellow countrymen. Staff members, students and the ISC-Lahore Alumni Association® have collected funds, purchased relief goods and personally taken truck-loads of supplies to affected areas. The Director of ISC-Lahore hosted an Iftar on August 19 in which donations totaled to 60,000 pak rupees. Under the leadership of two of our senior Urdu teachers, Mr. Ahmad Bilal and Mr. Salman Bhatti, members of the administration and senior teachers raised enough money to buy 60 tents (valued at 192,000 rupees) which were taken personally by these two teachers to the flooded area of Mithan Kot. They have made several weekly trips to different areas. Moreover, the ISC-Lahore Alumni Association® donated 10,000 rupees from its account and raised a great deal of money through a fund raising Iftar held on August 28, 2010 on school premises. Although the waters are now flowing into the sea, the country is left with the scar of broken bridges and roads, dead livestock, destroyed crops, homeless people and the prospect of a cost of billions of dollars needed to repair the damage. ISC-Lahore is committed to an on-going relief effort, and prays for the prosperity of Pakistan. Our spirits may be dampened, but they are not broken.

Writing/Poster Competition For A Drug-Free World

ISC-Lahore is proud of four enthusiastic students who participated in a letter writing/poster competition organized by The Foundation For A Drug-Free World, an international group based in California, USA.  The students are Salman Shahid of 7B, Hamza Jamil of 8A, Dawood Abdulmalik of 8C, and Yousaf Abbasi of 9C.  Salman and Hamza  made beautiful posters emphasizing the dangers of drug abuse.  Dawood and Yousaf wrote letters to the citizens of Pakistan discouraging our vulnerable youth from falling into the deadly drug trap.  All four students received golden star certificates in appreciation of their participation.  We look forward to having our students become increasingly involved in such activities.
