ISC-Lahore held its 2nd Annual Bilingual Declamation/Recitation Competition

On Saturday, May 8, 2010, ISC-Lahore held its 2nd Annual Bilingual Declamation/Recitation Competition.

This competition, which was organized by Mustafa Imran and Khushbakht Sohail of 11L under the coordination of the English Department,  was amongst students of grades 7 and 8 in one group, and those of grades 9 and 10 in another group.  Various interesting topics such as “Medical testing of animals should be banned,” “Giving children an allowance does more good than harm,” “Cigarette consumption should be restricted or banned,” and whether “President Obama  deserved to win the Noble Peace Prize,” were selected.  The competition was tough and the scores were close as students presented their views with conviction and confidence. Naturally, the judges (Mrs. Zaidi, HOD English, Ms. Imtiaz, English teacher, and Mrs. Ghaffur, Chief Guest) had a difficult time in choosing the winners.  Of the 25 students who competed, Amna Hassan, 7A was the winner of group A (gr. 7/8)  and Fizza Tariq, 9A was the winner of group B (gr.9/10).  The runners up were Omar Rahim Khan 7A, Sabrina Noor 8C, Anushka Qazilbash 9C, and Rahma Sohail, 10SB.  The winners and runners up were presented with beautiful shields and all participants received certificates of appreciation.

Parents, staff, and guests all had an enjoyable morning.  ISC-Lahore feels proud to be a part of such activities that help to improve and build strong personalities.  We look forward to organizing more activities of this type in the future.

Annual sports day for special children

An annual sports day for handicapped and special children was held on Thursday 6, May 2010 at the Punjab Stadium in Lahore.  The event was organized by “Lifestart, “an organization which works on a voluntary basis to help special members of the community.  ISC Lahore was invited to start the event with a cheer leading and aerobics display.  Mrs. Sheikh, the Primary AQC was the chief guest while SLO™ represented the school in its extra curriculum activity.  Altogether thirty one girls of grades three and four took part in this memorable occasion. The students left ISC after a full school day at 3:10 p.m but the moment they donned their bright and mesmerizing outfits they suddenly had an outburst of energy again. It was all singing and organized fun on the bus, preparing the children to be in a light and happy mood for the grand event.  When the children arrived they all met the special students and they were amazed to see a musical band which had physically disabled students performing. In all, ten special schools were participating and ISC students were overwhelmed by the warm reception.  It was the first time some of the children had experienced the love shown by the special children.

Soon the performance began and parents and spectators alike were awed by the amazing display of coordination and skill.  The applause was a boost to the ISC students and they spent the rest of the afternoon watching the rest of the sports activities and cheering on the participants.  That day the ISC students learned that there is a desire for success in all regardless of any drawbacks.  Our students were well looked after with specially packed lunch boxes from school and plenty of drinks.  After all the events Mrs. Sheikh distributed the prizes to the handicapped children. The event was covered by the GEO news channel who also took some interviews.
