Sports Day
On January 20th 2010, The International School of Choueifat, Lahore proudly hosted its 18th annual sports day for the KGs, Grades 1 and 2. The event was organized by the Physical Education Department with undaunted assistance from the Senior members of the SABIS Student Life Organization® and the Custodian Staff. The children were put through a combination of athletic and educational activities which taught them how to work collectively and at the same time familiarized them with the spirit of teamwork and competition. The affair was especially enjoyed by the parents, who were in high spirits with their constant cheers helping in boosting the morale of their little ones. Mrs Niva Usman Umar, Head of the Chief Minister Task Force (Promotion of Sports) /Punjab, was also in attendance as the chief guest. She addressed the parents of the participants about how they should encourage their children to take part in sporting events in the future and how important it is for children to be physically as well as mentally active. This was followed by an award ceremony for the winners and runner ups, marking the end of a very enjoyable and exciting experience for the students and parents alike.

RUGBY MATCH
From 16 January, Mr Mohsin Khan, coach from the Pakistan Rugby Union, has been coming to Choueifat to help us start this great sport. The first training session was well attended by more than 50 boys from Grades 5-13. On Saturday 23 January we enjoyed an exhibition match given by experienced players from other schools, supported by Pakistan Rugby Union officials. The President of PRU, Mr Fawzi Khawaja, was our guest and presented a prize to the winning team. The match was a real eye-opener for those who witnessed it. We enjoyed watching these really athletic and tough young gentlemen playing “a ruffian’s game”. They were real sportsmen with discipline and good manners. The commentary by Mr Khuram, the General Secretary of PRU, was informative and funny. Well done, all our students and staff who came along. Rugby football is a fast game with contact – it is like soccer, but you also run with the ball, you tackle the other team aggressively and you have scrums where players from the two teams push against each other. It is physical and tough. But it has rules – the laws of the game. You do not have to be very fit and thin. You can be heavy and still play rugby, and playing and training will make you fitter.
