AR Program Annual Ceremony

The Magic Hour

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.”

Jacqueline Kennedy

To celebrate the success of reading for the AY 2011-2012, the AR program ceremony was held on May 31st, 2012.

At ISC-Lahore,  we give our young readers a boost by offering them interesting books, motivation and encouragement. We inspire our students to become better readers by matching our students to the right book at the right time through leveled reading.

Out of one thousand students, twenty two of our highest achievers from KG2  to Grade 10 were selected who took advantage of the AR program by accumulating points  throughout the year.

To acknowledge this success we held our final AR certificate presentation for all three levels, Junior, Middle and High Schools. Ms. Margo Abdel Aziz handed out the certificates and gifts to acknowledge the star readers. The three Academic Controllers, Mrs. Anne Sheikh, Mr. Nasir Mahmood and Dr. Richard Clark, were also present along with a large number of parents and English teachers from all levels.

The ceremony ended with traditional cake cutting ritual. The children savored the cake as well as received accolades from elated parents and proud teachers. Jorge Luis Borges aptly sums up the joys of reading by saying,  “I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library.”

The young readers look forward to another year of magical journey through the world of creativity and imagination.

Senior Day 2012

Farewell Past, Hail Future!

As temperatures rose across the plain of Punjab, so did the level of excitement at ISC Lahore. In anticipation of the Senior Day, the hallways, corridors and porch areas of ISC Lahore were decorated with buntings and balloons. In keeping with the tradition, the Class of 2012 celebrated its “Senior Day” with great pomp and ceremony.

29th of May 2012, dawned bright and sunny. At 1 o’ clock, the Class of 2012 entered the school premises amid shouts of joy. The students were clad in the traditional white shalwar kameez with multi colored scarves and duppattas. The boys were on horseback while the girls arrived on horse-driven carriages. They were dancing and singing to the beat of the drums.

The school Director, Ms. Margo, accompanied by two AQCs namely Mrs. Sheikh and Dr. Clark, welcomed the Class of 2012. Soon, the children got off their horses and carriages and danced in the porch area. Later they gathered in the small gym for a special ceremony.  A slideshow had been prepared for this occasion. It was like walking down memory lane with moments frozen in time! The audience enjoyed pictures of various events that Grade 12 had organized throughout the year.

The highlight of this ceremony was when students gave out titles to their teachers which garnered much enthusiasm. Surprisingly, the titles which should have been given to the female teachers were actually granted to the male teachers! The Class of 2012 found Mr. Qasim to be the “Coolest”! Dr. Navid was declared “lovable” and Mr. Mian was “adorable”.

After giving away the titles, the cake was cut and everyone savored the delicious treat. The festivities continued and later everyone gathered in the backfield for the tree planting ceremony. Colorful balloons were released into the air as the class planted a sapling that would preserve their name for posterity. Just to revive old memories, students had requested for the bouncing castles that were put up in the backfield. And just like old times, Grade 12 jumped and screamed to their heart’s content.

The rising mercury failed to stifle their spirits as the Class of 2012 continued to celebrate their last day in school. A chapter of their lives was coming to an end but there is so much more to savor and experience!

Annual Student Art Exhibition

Amid a riot of colours , shades and hues, ISC - Lahore held the Annual Student Art Exhibition on Monday, 7th May 2012. The event drew a large audience, particularly parents who were eager to see the talent and creativity of the young artists. This year, Mrs. Asad, Hear of the Art Department, selected two themes: the Egyptian theme and images from the jungle so that students had a broader canvass to exercise their skills. Materials which were used to prepare items included clay, paper mache’ and used bottles and boxes.

In the drawing and painting section , students of grades 5 & 6 did pencil work while, grades 2 to 4 tried their hand at pasting and painting. Similarly, students of grades 5 to 8 prepared three dimensional projects with recycled material. Moreover, the visitors were delighted to see  the canvass paintings, pastel work and ink paintings done by grade 8.

The cynosure of the event were  students disguised as the pharaoh and queen Nefertiti. Egyptian costumes , signs and symbols and Egyptian gods and goddesses were all made of paper mache’. Students also made models of the cat which has a special significance in Egyptian culture. Moreover, the visitors were enticed to drink water for eternal life from goblets and chalices specially made by students. Similarly , the jungle theme was enhanced by the beautiful handmade costumes of different animals.

To sum up, the art exhibition provided a wonderful platform to explore new avenues of creativity for proud parents and motivated children under the conducive environment provided by ISC Lahore.
