SLOTM Training Camp Cairo 2009

The Student Life Organization

The Student Life Organization™ is a very important part of the SABIS® Educational System. It serves as the students' own mini-society, allowing them to experience real life work and responsibility while promoting high moral and ethical values amongst the student body.

Students who work passionately for the SLO™ and the school community overall are selected to go to the Worldwide SABIS® Student Life Training Camp.

I am honored to say that this year I was a part of the worldwide SABIS® Student Life Training Camp, 2009 held in Cairo.

The Student Life Training Camp brings together students from all over the world. This year students representing the schools from Germany, USA, the Middle East and Pakistan were welcomed by the International School of Choueifat, Cairo from July 24th to August 3rd, 2009. This was a huge opportunity for global interaction with people from all over the world.

It all started with a letter from Mr. Roger, which stated that I had been selected for the Student Life Training Camp, 2009.Packed with enthusiasm I and other two students Mahrukh and Usama left for Cairo at 4:00 am on the 24th of July. What we experienced in Cairo was the best thing anyone coved dream of.

The Camp officially started on the 25th of July with more than 80 prefects and Student Life Coordinators from all the SABIS® schools. That day to the end of the camp passed by as one big wave. Nevertheless, this big wave consisted of so much. The Student Life Training Camp not only provided us with an opportunity to explore all that the Land of the Pharaohs had to offer but also all of the knowledge that we gathered to help us throughout our lives. We learned how to be positive in any situation, how to filter our minds, to conquer our fears, work as a team, become good leaders, believe in ourselves, stop complaining and seek solutions. We learned to become proactive, to begin with the end in mind, to choose our attitude, make other people’s day, and always be there for one another. For all this, I would like to thank the inspirational speakers,   Mr.  Roger, Mr. Chris, Mr. Jeff, Mr. Sam and Mr. Abel.

In addition to this we spent a huge amount of time outside school. I am sure nobody can forget the visit to the Citadel of Cairo, “Sound and Light” laser show on the pyramids, the climb to the enormous Pyramids of Giza (one of the Seven wonders of the world), the cruise on the historic river Nile, horseback riding under the Egyptian Sun, the hot winds of the desert, the lunch at the famous Al-Azhar Gardens, dinner in the City of 6th October, and visit to the famous and historic Khan-e-Khilili bazaar where we all went crazy with haggling. Moreover, we spent time with our awesome global friends during the team building activities, while on trips outside school, during breaks, while in the bus and past curfew at night!

Most importantly everybody at the Camp realized that not everything that is said about some countries on the media is true.

Therefore, the Student Life Training Camp provided us with an opportunity to make friends from all over the world, to get to know different cultures, share ideas on various topics, and last but not the least to represent our school and country as enterprising Pakistanis.

We had the time of our lives!!!!!
